If you are a frequent user of Family Access...(and you probably should be)...you are going to see a new look to our Gradebook Display.  In the past, you saw each assignment as it was entered and had to scroll down to find each of the classes.  We are changing our format so that you will see one neat and tidy box that has each class listed inside of it along with the current grade.  By clicking on the grade you will be taken to a listing of all assignments.  You will still have the Missing Assignments tab as well as the ability to directly email the teacher.  All of the current information is available, it is simply packaged differently.

Next week may be a short week at school, but it is packed with a great deal of importance!  The fifth grade will be taking their WKCE tests during the week, the great news for kids is that they probably won't have as much homework, the not-so-great-news is that filling in the circles isn't very exciting.  Some kids get nervous about the testing, some take it very much in stride.  Our goal at school is for every student to get their scores back and feel a sense of pride in what they were able to accomplish.  We want all students to try their best, take the test serious...but not too seriously.  The fifth grade will be tested in the areas of Reading and Math, which will probably feel like a piece of cake after the more cumbersome fourth grade testing experience!

Parent/Teacher conferences were held at Gebhardt on Thursday night, (and are scheduled for Tuesday of this week as well), and the staff was treated to a wonderful dinner by the families of Gebhardt Elementary!  Since it's inception, the Black River Falls Elementary PTO has sponsored many thoughtful events such as this!  This is only the second year that the group has been formally organized, and their numbers continue to grow!  Watch for reminders to come home for their meetings, from my perspective, it is thrilling to see such a committed group of individuals willing to step up and support their school!

Tuesday, September 28, 2010 - 10:37pm

Wednesday is Favorite Team Day!  I'll be wearing my Milwaukee Brewer sweatshirt, not that I don't still love the Packers, (even after their performance on Monday Night).  I am excited to see what fun team wear the kids show up with!  The PTO will be doing their Tiger Spirit sales on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  If you want your child to be able to purchase beads, tattoos, bracelets or pencils, be sure to send some money with them.  Homecoming buttons are also available from the office for $1.50.

Gebhardt does not bus back to the school following the pep rally and prior to the parade on Friday.  This year we are planning an excellent "Minute to Win It" assembly in the band shell for the fourth and fifth grade students.  If you are at the park, you are welcome to stay and cheer on your child's team.  From the park we walk to the start of the parade route.

Wednesday, September 22, 2010 - 4:23pm

We are now just into our second full week of school and already the kids are completely in the groove and getting things done!  A reminder that Friday the fifth grade is going to the School Forest for a wonderful day of outdoor learning.  The weather has been highly unpredictable, so be sure to catch a forecast and help your child dress appropriately.

Speaking of dressing appropriately, next week is Homecoming week in Black River Falls!  The elementary school students have the opportunity to participate in the high school cheerleading clinic (a separate flyer came home, call if you need another one), several dress up days at school as well as the big Pep Rally on October 1st!  September 22nd was the last day to purchase your visitor meal tickets, but if you still want to join us for some fun activity you are certainly welcome!

Thursday, September 9, 2010 - 3:12pm

Late Start:  Don't forget that Friday is a Late Start!  This means that school will begin at 9:46.  Another big day is Picture Day coming up on Tuesday, September 14th.  If you need a replacement envelope - please let the office know!

Thanks for your help in returning your forms!  I know the parents had more homework than the students the first days - the updated contact information is VERY important as we move forward.  If you need additional copies of anything, please ask!

What a wonderful first day of school!  Thankfully the weather cooled down a little bit for us.  Honestly, I don't think anything could have squashed the enthusiasm and excitement through the hallways!  It was wonderful to see the fifth graders back and heartwarming to hear them talk to the new fourth graders.  I heard one fourth grader say, "I love fourth grade, I just want to keep doing it again and again".  The fifth grader then said, "You say that now, but fifth grade really rocks too!"  Now the challenge is to keep them thinking that way each and every day.

Thanks for your attention filling out the back-to-school paperwork, I know it seems redundant, but it really helps us to serve you better.

I'm excited to try this blog, please check back often as I will try to update you on things you need to know about the daily happenings at Gebhardt.
